Trainers:
Mr Dollah Kassim
Former Singapore Striker
Dribbler
extraordinare of the 70s. The "Gelek" king could take on three, four, five
men in one breath-taking sweep. Superb pace and acceleration.
Dollah Kassim was known as the "Gelek King" because of his
feints with which he was able to shake off his defenders before scoring.
In
1977, Uncle Choo Seng Quee, Singapore’s legendary soccer coach,
with the likes of Dollah Kassim, S Rajagopal, Quah Kim Song, Mohammad Noh
became household names when Singapore won the Malaysia Cup by beating
Penang 3-2 after extra time at Merdeka Stadium in Kuala Lumpur. The Lions
had last won in the independence year of 1965.
Besides working, Dollah Kassim still plays social soccer
regularly and conducts soccer clinics particularly for grassroots
organisations.
Mr Robert Sim
Former Singapore Defender
He was
Dollah Kassim's Singapore national teammate in the 70's and a defender - with the scything tackles sometimes reducing opponents to tears
- who played
in the Singapore National Team that won the famous Malaysia Cup Final of 1977.
Like Dollah Kassim, Robert Sim still plays soccer regularly and coaches
teams.
